Travel cards, multi-currency wallets, and prepaid foreign-exchange cards all convert your home currency to a destination currency at a rate the issuer chooses — usually the card scheme rate (e.g. Visa or Mastercard) plus a margin, or a wallet's published rate at top-up time.
fxmap.app does not issue cards. We publish mid-market reference rates and a purchasing-power layer (Big Mac Index, Latte Index, cost-of-living scores) so travellers can see how far a converted balance is likely to go in the destination country.
When a card-issuer partner CTA appears below, it is an affiliate link. fxmap may earn a commission, and that commission has no influence on the reference rates you see on the rest of the site.

Frequently asked questions
- Will my travel card give me the rate I see on fxmap?
- Almost certainly not. Card issuers convert at the card scheme rate (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) or at a published wallet rate, often with an additional FX margin. fxmap's mid-market reference rate is a benchmark — comparing the two reveals the spread you actually pay.
- Does fxmap rank the best travel cards?
- No. We do not rank or rate card products. Any card-issuer CTA on this page is a paid affiliate placement, disclosed as such. Independent product comparisons should be sourced from regulated review services.
- Can I use fxmap's purchasing-power data on a trip?
- Yes, as a rough guide. The Big Mac Index, Latte Index, and similar indexes give you a feel for how affordable a destination is at the current FX rate, but they reflect approximate national averages — not specific cities, vendors, or seasons.
- How do I check the spread on a card top-up?
- Compare the rate the card issuer quoted you at top-up against the mid-market rate on fxmap's currency-pair page for that pair at the same time. The difference (in percentage terms) is the spread you paid.
- Does fxmap track ATM or interchange fees?
- No. fxmap is a reference-rate and currency-intelligence layer; it does not aggregate retail fees, ATM charges, or interchange rates.
Need a tradeable price?
